One of the greatest lessons that can be learned from history is that the mistakes of the past can be repeated in the future if society doesn’t learn from those mistakes. During this election campaign, we have been bombarded by messages that claim one candidate is better than the other, and only their leadership can save us. One GOP critic claims that the period between World War I and World War II serves as a perfect example of what is wrong with current policies. I disagree with him and submit today Family First site as strong evidence that if we ignore the past, we are doomed to repeat its mistakes.

Called The World at War, this site looks at the period between World War I (“the war to end all wars”) and World War II. Here one can see how the Treaty of Versailles did not work, how a mad man in Germany came to power, and how the United States came to be a dominant world power. The material here is contemporary, and gives one a sense of you-are-there history. For example, you can see the map of how Europe’s borders were redrawn after World War I. This period of time had long reaching effects that are still being felt today. The United States went through a depression that almost bankrupted our government. Only through the strong leadership of a strong President did we recover.
Learning from the past is important. It is the only way we can pass on to our children the lessons that we have learned. Hopefully they will not make the same mistakes that we have. By the time you read this, our nations next President may well be known. Hopefully that President will lead us all to a future of peace and properity.
